Paintballing in Bunker 51

Megaro Hotel Concierge Paintballing

When you’re considering things to do around central London, paintballing probably doesn’t leap to mind. Yet that’s probably because you haven’t heard of Bunker 51; a decommissioned Cold War nuclear bunker in North Greenwich, now used the bets laser tag and paintballing experiences in the capital!

What?

When it comes to paintballing experiences, this is pretty much unique. Underground, you join a Special Forces operation to save the world (of course), and then launch yourself into battle with state of the art equipment, including special ops uniform, armoured gloves and a protective helmet.

Naturally, you’ll also get a gun and 200 paintballs, with which to wreak havoc. Of course, you can always buy extra paintballs at £10 for 100. Oh and the best part, for some of you, is that there’s no messy paint! Instead, you’ll fire powder pellets, which explode spectacularly upon impact without covering you in gunk.

There are two incredible gaming zones and you’ll experience both, with short rest breaks between games. Overall, you’ll spend an hour in each zone, which is enough for most normal people.

Who?

Paintballing groups can consist of anything from 6 to 50 players, all of whom must be over 12 years of age. You can also book a private paintballing session, but will need at least 20 people to do so. Players under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Although the powder pellets are much cleaner than paint, this is still a paintballing experience, so be prepared for a bit of sting upon impact! If that doesn’t sound like your kind of thing, you may wish to ask a friend with some first-hand experience. It really isn’t that bad.

When?

Paintballing games run all day, from 09:00 to 22:00, and are two and a half hours long. You’ll start with a 30 minute safety briefing, then play multiple games over a two-hour period.

Where?

If you’re going by car, you get to the site from the A206 and, amazingly for London, there is even free parking! Otherwise, the closest tube station is North Greenwhich.

From the Megaro: from King’s Cross tube station, take the Northern Line South, change at London Bridge and take the Jubilee Line East to North Greenwich. The journey will take about half an hour.
